INTERSEX STORIES: Alex & Mugsie

Personal Stories of Alex and Mugsie

Hear the stories of intersex people - not clearly male or female but clearly human!

Alex McCorry and Mugsie Pike told their personal stories to a largely gay/lesbian audience at Center on Halsted during the "INTERSEX LIVES: Issues and Personal Stories" presentation on March 10, 2012.

Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is a common type of intersex occurring in genetic females. "Classical" CAH causes ambiguous genitalia in the newborn. "Nonclassical" CAH does not cause ambiguous genitalia, but like classical CAH causes the adrenal cortex to produce higher than usual levels of androgen hormones throughout life.

At the video end (when camera battery died) Mugsie was saying: "If you guys encounter anybody who is intersex, please direct them to our social group INTERSEX CHICAGO that meets at Center on Halsted on the first Tuesday of every month."
