The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) is published by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and provides diagnostic criteria for mental disorders. It is consulted not only in the United States but around the world in varying degrees by clinicians, researchers, psychiatric drug regulation agencies, health insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and policy makers.

It is gratifying to see that Dr. Ecker is among those trying to get psychiatrists to "face the facts" about sexual identity.
